It was a breezy night back in 1990. Can't remember the month
week or day. What I do remember was that we were in the LA Memorial Coliseum
and shooting a month of nights on "The Last Boy Scout".
It was a BIG show. Lots of crew actors extras hanger ons and
it was exciting.
The fact that it was a month of nights and we were literally
a bunch of zombies didn't matter. This was a BIG show.
The finale we were setting up to shoot was a scene that
required Bruce Willis to dance a jig on some sort of giant rig constructed over
and around the arches of the Coliseum.
He had just shot the bad guy (Taylor Negron) who falls
backwards and is chopped up by the rotating blades of the nearby passing
helicopter.
"Jordan, where's Jordan? Get Jordan over here, He'll do
it. There you are, Jimmy say's you'll do it. Go on Jordan get up there, go on
we're all waiting on you. Go on you, Nutter".
How do you say No to Tony when he asks, caresses,
encourages, cajoles you like that. His voice and manner filled with a sort of
love and respect that I guess being British you get quickly and for the
Americans it takes a little explanation.
The fact that it was four in the morning, a job for a
stand-in or stuntman, required a certain amount of prep, harnesses, safety
measures.....I fucking ran up that rig and danced that Jig for over 25 minutes
while all 4-5 cameras got their focus marks and Bruce could see what he had to
do and where.
I could hear the laughter, the squeals of delight emanating
from the field as Tony had once again achieved what he had set out to do.
He hugged me afterwards and I think he or someone else gave
me cognac, too.
He was wonderful to be with and fun to work with.
Tony Scott R.I.P.
